My name is Dr. Becky Hunter, and I’m a licensed psychologist practicing in Colorado, Kansas, and Missouri. I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a Health specialization from the University of Kansas in 2015. My pre-doctoral residency was completed at the Palo Alto VA Healthcare System in Palo Alto, California and my postdoctoral fellowship was completed at Loyola University Medical Center in the Chicago suburbs. I have been practicing independently for nearly a decade in large hospital systems, and I have been a faculty member at academic medical centers in Chicago, Colorado, and Kansas City.
Most of my career has been spent working with medical populations, particularly cancer patients and their caregivers, partners, and families. As such, I have extensive experience treating a variety of mental health conditions with the sensitivity and flexibility of navigating serious medical concerns, shifts in identity, grief, and trauma. In addition to expertise in treating trauma, anxiety, depression, and panic, I also specialize in treating sexual health and intimacy, grief and loss, and coping with issues surrounding death and dying. Given my health training, I also routinely treat insomnia and help individuals quit smoking.
I pride myself in taking a person-centered approach in therapy, collaborating on your goals for treatment and frequently checking-in to reflect on progress. I strongly believe that people should not be in therapy forever; rather, therapy provides an opportunity to learn skills to navigate mental health symptoms in the present and future. My hope is that clients not only feel better as a result of working with me, but they also recognize their own power.
